Highway 95 opens to traffic west of Cambridge
By Becky Glander
A crew from Redstone Construction finished up work on the $1.3 million bridge over the Rum River on Thursday. All that was left to do before drivers could use it was take down the orange “detour” signs.

At around 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, drivers celebrated the opening of the bridge at Walbo on Highway 95 and the end to an annoying seven-mile detour.

As he began taking down the orange “detour” signs, Andrew Grabowski, of Redstone Construction, said building the bridge was a smooth process. And he knows a few people who will be excited for the end of the detour. His wife, who is employed in Cambridge, works with a few people who have had to drive the detour everyday.

Redstone Construction of Mora was the prime contractor for the $1.3 million bridge replacement project, which was paid for using federal economic stimulus funds.

The bridge over the Rum River, four miles west of Cambridge, has been closed since late June to allow crews to replace the Rum River Bridge.

Work was anticipated to be complete by early November, so crews met their deadline.
