At around 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, drivers celebrated the opening of the bridge at Walbo on Highway 95 and the end to an annoying seven-mile detour.
As he began taking down the orange “detour” signs, Andrew Grabowski, of Redstone Construction, said building the bridge was a smooth process. And he knows a few people who will be excited for the end of the detour. His wife, who is employed in Cambridge, works with a few people who have had to drive the detour everyday.
Redstone Construction of Mora was the prime contractor for the $1.3 million bridge replacement project, which was paid for using federal economic stimulus funds.
The bridge over the Rum River, four miles west of Cambridge, has been closed since late June to allow crews to replace the Rum River Bridge.
Work was anticipated to be complete by early November, so crews met their deadline.
