Editor's note: Due to the number of local ice fishing contests and limited space in the print edition of the paper, coverage of Ann, Knife and Fish Lake Ice Fishing Contests will appear ONLY online. Previews for each contest appeared on the front page of the paper the week they were fished. Check this site later in February for coverage of the Feb. 20 Fish Lake Ice Fishing Contest.

KNIFE LAKE (JAN. 23)

The annual Knife Lake Sportsmen's Club ice fishing contest took place on Saturday, Jan 23. Organizers say they were pleasantly surprised by the "wonderful turnout," considering the weather was not the best, and a number of fish were caught this year.

Julie Lane and Chris Viger tied for the 1st and 2nd place fish, and Pat Peterson took 3rd place with his fish. Luke and Jessica Olen won 4th and 5th place.

A pancake breakfast was served in the morning and bingo was held in the afternoon during the fishing contest. Many people attended all the activities and seemed to enjoy the day.

The raffle winners this year were: Julie Stace, Mick Hartnet, Ralph Groeluke, Gus Roehlke and Don Overson.

All in all it was a successful fund raiser for Knife Lake and lots of fun!

ANN LAKE

About 200 fisherpersons caught approximately 39 fish during the Ann Lake Ice Fishing Contest on Saturday, Jan. 30.

Gene Otto's 8 oz. perch took the top prize -

Nick Weidner's 7 oz. perch was good enough for second place, and John Wallin took third place with a perch weighing 6.5 oz.
