To the editor:
Our best interests?

Judy Soderstrom (May 7, 2008) claims Representative Tim Faust is not looking out for our best interests, but I’d like to know exactly what she thinks our best interests are.

Do our best interests include roads that wreck our cars and congestion that wastes gas while our cars idle in the same spot? Do they include bridges that fall when we drive over them? Do they include the continuation of a rising state deficit while the infrastructure that supports our economy crumbles beneath our tires?

Mr. Faust wasn’t totally responsible for overriding the governor’s veto of the transportation bill, but he took the responsible action in helping do so. For the first time in 20 years, the state’s gas tax increased so that our transportation system has a chance of keeping pace with the beating it takes every year (and, by the way, the full 8.5 cent/gallon increase won’t take effect until 2012).
