A 62-year-old Brook Park woman was found dead in her home after a fire engulfed the structure yesterday evening.
According to a press release from the Pine County Sheriff's Office, at 7:53 p.m. Sept. 17, Pine County dispatch received a report of a house fire on Highway 23 west of Highway 107 near Brook Park. The caller was the homeowner who reported his house on fire. Deputies along with Brook Park Fire and Welia Ambulance from Mora were dispatched. Pine City and Hinckley Fire Departments were called in for mutual aid as well.
The first deputy on scene found the house fully engulfed in flames. The male homeowner, who drove to Brook Park to call 911, arrived back on scene as well.
According to the homeowner, he and his wife were in separate rooms of the home when he noticed the fire and smoke filling the house.
The male was able to get out of the home and made attempts to re-enter a different door looking for his wife but was unable to find her. He then drove to Brook Park to call 911.
Once the fire was under control, the fire departments were able to enter the structure and located the female homeowner deceased. The male homeowner was transported to an area hospital for evaluation of his injuries.
The deceased female homeowner, age 62, was transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. The State Fire Marshal was called in to assist with investigation of the fire.
The Red Cross is assisting the homeowner with temporary housing at this time. The incident remains under investigation at this time.
