Nearly $2 million is on its way to Kanabec County from the federal CARES Act. The question now: How can it best be delivered to those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and shutdown?

Those decisions will be made by a committee established by the Kanabec County Board of Commissioners.

On July 7, the board approved a resolution to accept the CARES Act Funds; develop a CARES Act committee to oversee fund expenditures; and that no less than 10% of Kanabec County’s CARES Act fund would be disbursed to Kanabec County businesses in grant form through administration by the Kanabec County EDA.

The CARES Act requires these funds only be used to cover expenses deemed necessary due to the COVID-19 public health emergency; were not accounted for in the budget; and were incurred between March 1, 2020, and Dec. 30, 2020.
