Fairgoers and participants will have to hold their ribbon-winning horses until 2021.
Kanabec County Agriculture Board of Directors announced there will be no 2020 Kanabec County Fair due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The decision was made with “great disappointment and sadness” according to a statement released by the board.
“After exhausting every other alternative, it has become apparent that it will be impossible to move forward with the 2020 fair. Based on the limited number of people who would be allowed to attend the fair, and the required cleaning procedures — an event such as you have come to expect from us would not be possible ... Please know that the entire board is saddened by this decision.”
The board thanked its many volunteers and partners for their support and said it will continue to support 4-H members throughout this year to provide positive experiences.
The annual Rods and Rust Car Show and Swap Meet that serves as a fundraiser for the fair has also been postponed.
However, planning has already begun for the 2021 fair, “with the intentions of hosting the best ever Kanabec County Fair yet.”
The Minnesota State Agricultural Society announced May 22 there would be no 2020 State Fair.
