Residents within Mora city limits may burn fall leaves until Nov. 7. The city’s regulations permit leaf and open burning from Oct. 17 through Nov. 7 as long as there is not a burning ban in effect. Community members must obtain a $10 burning permit from city hall. Leaves shall not be burned within 50 feet of any structure, nor on any streets, alleys, sidewalks, curbs or in gutters.

The city of Mora encourages residents to keep leaves and grass clippings out of streets. The streets are part of the storm water drainage system, which means leaves left in the street can enter storm drains and streams. This increases the risk of localized flooding and adds pollutants and excess organic material to streams and rivers.
