A new Dollar General store is now open for business in Ogilvie. Construction began on the store this spring and celebrated a grand opening on Saturday, Aug. 4.
Before the opening of the Dollar General, Ogilvie residents had very limited retail options, many often driving to Milaca or Mora for groceries or basic goods. Dollar General and the city of Ogilvie first began conversations about building in Ogilvie in August 2017. The 9,100 square foot store was built on a cornfield on the south side of Highway 23, directly south of the Tower View mobile/manufactured home court.
The Dollar General chain has been expanding across America, particularly in rural areas where other such chains do not exist. Today, the company has more than 14,000 stores in 44 states.
“When choosing store locations, meeting customers’ needs is Dollar General’s top priority. The company looks for places where we can offer customers an easy and convenient shopping choice. We know convenience is a major factor in our customers’ shopping decisions as we generally serve customers within a three to five mile radius, or 10 minute drive,” said Angela Petkovic, Dollar General Media Relations.
The store will employ approximately 6-10 employees. Hours of operation are anticipated to be 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
