Diane Rae (Weast) Stigen, of Harris, died and went home to the Lord on Monday, July 22, 2019. She was 77 years old.
She was born on May 3, 1942, in Minneapolis to Harry and Pauline (Camp) Weast. She grew up in Mora and was confirmed and baptized in the Christian religion in 1960. She also graduated from Mora High School in 1960. After school, she worked at Sportmen’s Café for many years and then played guitar and sang in a country western band with her sister Sharon in the 1970’s. Following this, she was a day care provider and then continued to work in serving positions at Rock Creek Motor Stop and at the Grand Casino Hinckley for many years. Her final employment was working with the developmentally disabled for Provide Care, Inc in North Branch prior to her retirement.
In 1961 she was united in marriage to Paul Raber, and was blessed with two sons, Douglas and Timothy, from this union. In 1969 she married Herbert Nelson, and was blessed with one daughter, Lisa. Sadly, her marriages did not last, and she never did find lasting love in her lifetime.
She loved her family dearly, loved her church, and was a true believer in our Lord, Jesus Christ. She volunteered for many years with her daughter, Lisa, in the church kitchen every week prior to her onset of vascular dementia. She battled this disease for five years as it stole her memories and impeded her ability to care for herself. She moved in with her daughter and was cared for by her and her staff until three months prior to her death. She then moved to Ecumen in North Branch until her passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Pauline Weast; sister, Sharon Wiener; and brother, Donald Weast.
She is survived by her sons, Douglas (Mona) Nelson of Brookhaven, Georgia, Timothy (Shawna) Nelson of Pine City; and daughter, Lisa Griffin of Harris; grandchildren, Kirika Kose, Rachel Nelson, Rebecca McGregor (Tyler Hackler), Brendan McGregor and Tiana Nelson; great-grandchildren, Dominic, Destiny, Madelyn, Devin, Maverick, Veda, Alexis, Levi and Rory; sister, Donna Beaudette of River Falls, Wisconsin; brother, Allen Weast of Hemet, California; plus many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service was held on Monday, July 29, 2019, at the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora with Pastor Kevin Haseltine officiating. Music was provided by Hannah Whittaker. Burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery in Mora. Condolences may be posted at www.aifuneralhome.com.
