Donald Gene Caza of Mora, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019, at St Clare’s, after suffering another stroke that left him paralyzed.
He was born July 8, 1935, to James Joseph Caza and Blanche Mae Cutler Caza in St. Paul. The family moved to Hillman Township in Mora when he was 1-year old. He attended Bean Brook Country School. He loved the outdoors and was hunting, fishing or trapping most of the time.
He was united in marriage to Betty Kofoed Dec.17, 1955, at Grace Lutheran Church in Mora. The couple lived in Circle Pines, Hinckley and finally back to the old homestead in Hillman Township in Mora. While living in Circle Pines he was a member of the Full Cry Coonhound Association. When the couple moved back to Mora, he served on the Hillman Township Board.
He worked for Arcon Construction many years and was a workaholic. He started his own business, “Caza Construction,” and after many years retired.
He and his wife took many summer trips to Canada fishing with a group of close friends. They also traveled to the west coast to visit their daughter and family and to Texas and Arizona during winter months in the motor home. He also enjoyed hunting in Hullet, Wyoming.
After his first stroke he was able to get around in his electric wheelchair, visiting neighbors, and driving up and down the road to feed the deer. Occasionally he got stuck in the mud.
He was preceded in death by daughter, Lori Ann; parents, James and Blanch Caza; brothers, Eugene and James Caza; sister, Arlene Caza; sister-in-law, Evelyn Caza; and step-father, Vern Egemo.
He is survived by his wife of 63 and one half years, Betty; daughter, Cheryl Ward; son, Rick (Deanna) Caza; brother, Phil (Patricia) Caza; sister, Judy Helmbrecht and Pat Caza; grandchildren, Shannan McCall, Justin Mulhern, Mandie Johnson, Cassie Roberts, Levi Hagland and Heidi Hagland; great-grandchildren, Nick, Tierra, Aiden, Brynlee, Nevaeh, Oakley, Grasen, Cyress, Chuck, Cain and John; many nieces, nephews and friends. He will be missed by all.
A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019, at the First Lutheran Church in Hinckley with Rev. Brenda Wicklund officiating. Music will be provided by Pat Anderson, Doty Frye and Joanie Sachs. Honorary pallbearers are; Shannon, Justin, Mandie, Cassie, Nick, Tierra and Aiden.
