Edward Helmbrecht

Edward Martin Helmbrecht, of Ogilvie, died on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at St. Clare Living Community in Mora.  He was 94 years old.

 He was born on Sept. 7, 1924 in Winsted to Ludwig and Theresa (Leiminger) Helmbrecht.  He grew up farming with horses in Hinckley and attended school until the eighth grade in Hinckley as well.  

He was united in marriage to Elizabeth (Betty) Grafsky in Mora, and they moved to a farm one mile west of Mora.  He worked on the railroad since he was 18, working for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 42 years.  In addition to the railroad he also fought wildfires.  He retired in Ogilvie.  He loved farming, gardening and auction sales and was a union member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance Wayside Employees (BMWE).

 He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his siblings, Joseph, Catherine, Louie, Mathilda, John, William, Leonard, Albert, Edward the first (who passed away at 4 years old), Henry, Isadore and George.

 He is survived by his son, Robert (Lona) of Phoenix, Arizona, granddaughter, Hawley of Seattle, Washington; brothers, Andrew and Ben as well as other relatives and friends.

 Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2019, at Dresser-Methven Funeral Home in Mora with Rita Clasemann officiating.  Casket bearers are Gene Banks, Duane Helmbrecht, Roger Helmbrecht, Wayne Helmbrecht, Tom Roeschlein and Allen Taylor.  Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m.  Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
