Erma M. Herwig of Mora died on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2020. She was a young 91 years old.

She was born to Ernest and Sigrid Zimpel on Dec. 16, 1928 in McGrath. She grew up on a farm with six siblings. From 1944-45 at 16 years old she had the responsibility of staying alone on the farm doing chores and raising her younger sister while their parents worked out of town and all three brothers were serving in WWII.

She graduated from McGrath High School in 1946.

In 1948 she was united in marriage to Gus Herwig, and they had two sons. They moved to the Mora area in 1961. For many years she worked at Gene’s Studio of Mora.

She and her husband enjoyed dancing and went to many dances in their early years. Fishing was one of their favorite pastimes and they would spend hours on the lake whenever possible. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing cards, Sudoku and was an amazing cook. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Most of all she loved her family and they loved her.  Her grandchildren adored her. She was a blessing to all and will never be forgotten. She will be missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gus; parents, Ernest and Sigrid; brothers, Ivan, Clarence and Robert; and sisters, Bertha and Elva.

She is survived by her sons, Rod (Carla) and Kevin (Barb); grandchildren, Stacy (Corey), Shannon (Steve) and Adam; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Lauren, Aiden and Lincoln; stepgrandchildren Derek (Lisa), Nina (Michael); stepgreat-grandchildren, Devin, Nikki, Megan and Missy; sister, Marlene (Keith) Van Hale and many other relatives and friends.

A private family service was held.
