Gary Lee Beckman Stark, of Mora, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019. He was 78 years old.
He was born on March 11, 1941, to Adolph Beckman and Linnea (Ohlin) Stark in Pokegama Township, Pine County. He was adopted by Ervin Stark who he knew as his father. He graduated from Mora High School in 1959. On March 24, 1961 he was united in marriage to Patricia Oles in Mora.
He went to school for accounting at Minnesota School of Business and worked with his father in accounting. In 1989, he and his wife bought a Dairy Queen in Maplewood, and ran it for seven years. They enjoyed being snowbirds in Arizona for 20 years.
He was a small business owner and an active volunteer in the community. He was a past president and secretary of the Mora Jaycees, the first treasurer of the Mora Vasaloppet, active in the Conservation Club, Lions Club, Ambulance, Fireman (retired 20 years), Town and Country Garden Club, Northern Exposure Photography Club, Ducks Unlimited, a past board member of the Spring Brook Golf Course and SCORE in St. Paul. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, photography, flower gardening, traveling, watching football and cooking. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to tell stories.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pat; mother, Linnea Stark; and brother, Galen Stark.
He is survived by daughter, Tawni (Neil) Van- Vleet; son, Todd (Melanie Novacek) Stark; grandsons, Nathan, Zach (Anna), Zane, Quentin, Quade, Derek (Paige), Cole and Jacob; and one great-grandson, Ronen; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2019, at Zion Lutheran Church, Mora. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Dresser-Methven Funeral Home, Mora, with prayer service and time of sharing at 5:30 p.m. and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral. Burial at Oakwood Cemetery, Mora.
