Gregg W. Gillett died of cancer on Friday, July 5, 2019. He was 84 years old.  

He served in the U.S. Air Force. He spent his first 40 years in the Minneapolis area where he obtained a master’s degree of social work and worked in multiple positions as a social worker, counselor and psychotherapist. 

He had four children with his first wife Donna: Laura (Joel) Jensen, Stuart (Lorena Lamont), Matthew (Christine Brant) and Andrew (Karen). His children with Jamie are Noah and Naomi Gillett.

In 1975, he and his wife moved to a farm near Ogilvie where they experimented with homesteading and living off the grid. In 1984, he returned to being a social worker and retired in 2000 from Anoka County where he last served as the manager of Child and Family Protective Services. In retirement years he wrote a blog entitled “An Old Man’s Ramblings.” He will be dearly missed by family and friends.  

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jamie; eight grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held from 2:30-5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019, at the AmericInn in North Branch. In lieu of flowers, please send a memorial to Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Augusta, Minnesota.
