Lula Mae “Lou” (Seline) Telander died in her home in Mora, on Friday, Sept. 11, 2020. She was 83.
She was born on Jan. 15, 1937, in Mora to Elsie Mae (Olson) and Roy Seline. An only child, she was raised on a farm in Comfort Township and attended country school through eighth grade. She then went to Mora High School and graduated in 1954. She and John Telander were united in marriage in 1956 and celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in January. The couple had one son, Rory.
She attended beauty school in St. Cloud and was a hairdresser in Mora for many years. Later she worked as an administrative assistant at Lakes and Pines Community Action Council helping people throughout east-central Minnesota.
She was an avid bowler, bowling in leagues in Mora and Isle and competing in tournaments across Minnesota and other states. She often had the ladies’ high average and high game for the season, and held leadership roles in the leagues for many years. She was also a passionate baseball fan. She supported the Minnesota Twins as well as her husband and son’s amateur baseball teams. She also always looked forward to the annual Telander fishing trip to Reed Lake, a place they went 50 years in a row.
She enjoyed quilting, and was a member of the quilters at Calvary Lutheran Church in Mora, making quilts that brought comfort to many.
She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Her famous chocolate cake recipe is available upon request.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, John, of Mora; son, Rory (Alice) of Laramie, Wyoming; granddaughter, Abbi (Mike); great-granddaughter, Erin of St. Louis, Missouri; grandson, Andrew (Grete); great-granddaughters, Hazel, Vivian, Jane, Caroline and Vera of Laramie, Wyoming; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A graveside service was held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2020 at Oakwood Cemetery, Mora.
