Miller

Marilyn Marie Miller, of Mora, died on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019, at the Gardens of Foley surrounded by her family. She was 78 years old.

She was born on Feb. 20, 1941, in Mora, to Merrill and Amelia (Arends) Berg. She was so small she fit in a shoe box. She grew up on the family farm and was the middle child. She shared her chores with her brother, Clayton and sister, Barb, yet they still found time for fun on the farm.  As a child, she attended the Lowell Country School north of Mora. Growing up, she developed a love for music and was given the opportunity to learn the piano and accordion, which she continued to play until she was no longer able. She also loved to sing.

She was the proud mother of two sons, Jim and Les, whom she loved dearly, as well as any child in her life. She claimed as her daughter a foster child named Joanie who became an important part of her life.

Any chance she got, she loved to travel. A road trip on the spur of the moment was the way she rolled.  She loved to bring along her family and friends.  Throughout her life, she lived in Minnesota, Texas, Florida, Utah and Arizona. She loved family gatherings and volunteering at nursing homes. She even worked as an activities director. Her faith was very important to her. She was active in the Assembly of God Church and always attended wherever she lived. Her love of faith guided her to bring children to church with her. She would share the Lord and her love with these children.

She loved and took great care of her parents, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She felt their love in return.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Merrill and Amelia (Arends) Berg, and her aunt, Ione Berg.

She is survived by her brother, Clayton (Bonnie) Berg; sister, Barb; children, Jimmy DeVries, Les “Gump” (Janice) DeVries and Joan Padal. She was well loved by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Brian, Michael, Clayton, Jennifer, Rachael, Katie, Carson, Kellie, Andrea, Terry, Danielle, Kenneth, Lori, Charles, Ember, Zoe, Owen, Riley, Carley, MaKenzie, Chloe, Madison, Mason, Tori, Spencer, Logan, Kaden, Ethan, Kenzie and Evelyn. She will be missed by many nieces and nephews as well.

After her passing, the staff at Elmhurst Commons, a group of people who were very special to her, had the following words to share: “The joy she gave through her smile and her musical talents will never be forgotten by the residents of Elmhurst.  Even though her mind was failing, her spirit was strong.  Rest in peace, dear Marilyn. With love, Elmhurst.”

A celebration of life was held on Monday, Aug. 19, 2019 at the Open Arms Church in Grasston with Rev. Gene Sherrod officiating. Arrangements were handled by the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home of Mora.  Condolences may be posted at www.aifuneralhome.com.
