Thomsen

Mary Thomsen, died peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2020. She was 96 years old.

She was born to Clyde and Rene Loomis on Nov. 5, 1923 in St. Lawrence, South Dakota. She was the third girl of eight children, seven girls and last but not least a boy. She moved with her family to Minnesota when she was 9 years old.

In 1941 she was united in marriage to Ralph Thomsen, and they were married for 65 years. They had a son, Leonard and daughter, Eilene (Brian).

She had many talents and enjoyed sharing them with others. She played piano, guitar and sang beautifully. She was a wonderful baker and cook, and she loved to crochet blankets for many lucky recipients.  She loved the feeling of a good days work. Over the many years she worked as a cook in the school, ran a restaurant for a year, became a nurse in her 50’s and raised a strawberry and raspberry farm.  She loved conversation and time with family and friends.

She adored her four grandchildren; Monica (Paul), Mike (Wendy), Kristin (Joan), Austin (Sue) and four great-grandchildren; Zachary, Jacob, Owen and Kaya.  She cherished time with her beloved siblings, Marge, Joyce, Joanne and Jim; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph; and sisters, Ruth, Norma Jean and Clovene.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020 at Pliny Cemetery with Rev. Cathy Hedmark officiating. Please bring your own chair.
