Paul William Bailey, of rural Mora, died on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019, at Welia Health in Mora. He was 65 years old.

He was born on May 8, 1954, in Burley, Idaho. He was one of nine children born to parents William and Eunice (Pirrung) Bailey.

In 1986, he moved to Waukesha, Wisconsin, where he managed the Best Block Company’s block plant. After five years, he left Best Block to become the co-owner of the Superior Concrete Company with locations in Minneopa, New Ulm and Lake Crystal.   During this time he also owned a limousine business in Mankato.

In October of 1995, he met Jean VandenBerg and after a whirlwind romance, they were united in marriage on March 30, 1996, in Mankato. In 1997, he sold his stake in the business and the couple moved to Sarasota, Florida. He took a job managing the Anchor Block Company in Sarasota, where he worked until 2002. The couple moved back to Minnesota to a home north of Ann Lake, near Mora. In 2003, he started his own business of repairing and replacing the slats in hog barns. The business later split into two separate companies that are now run by his daughters Beth (and husband Terry) and Laura. He continued to be the “go to” guy for any problems that arose with the business. He would always figure out a way to make things work. Most recently, he began buying worn out buildings and renovating them for new business in the Isle, Ogilvie and Mora areas. He advised and helped to start three small businesses in the area. He also enjoyed renovating houses which he would either re-sell or rent. Everything he did was not only for himself, but also the future generation.

He loved traveling, boating, farming, socializing and smoking. He loved being with his family and time spent with his children and grandchildren. Most of all, he was an inspiration to everyone he knew. He pushed us all to be better people and to be successful in anything we did. He will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his father, William, and brothers, Bob and Jimmy Bailey.

He is survived by his mother, Eunice Bailey; wife, Jean VandenBerg; children, Rebecca Bailey, Elizabeth (Terry) Wachter, Lukas (Angie) VandenBerg, Laura Stoothoff, and Daniel (Kaela) VandenBerg; grandchildren, Michael, Allison, William, Breanna, MacKenzie, Ben, Ava and Hendrik; great-grandchildren, Dominick and Dawsyn; brothers, Bill (Lisa) Bailey, David (Linnea) Bailey, and Mike (Kelly) Bailey; sisters, Diane (Tom) Richmond, Linda (Jim) Luckey and Janice Bailey; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019, at the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora with a time of remembrance being held at 6:30 p.m. Arrangements are by the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home of Mora.
