Rachel Otilla Vreeland, formerly of the Mora area, died on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society – The Village in Mountain Lake, Minnesota. She was 98 years old.
She was born March 4, 1921, in Pomroy Township, the daughter of William and Orpah Lilienthal. She attended District 31 country school for eight years and one year at Mora High School. In 1935, she went to Minneapolis and had several jobs doing housework and taking care of children. In 1938, she met Lorin Vreeland. They were united in marriage on May 9, 1942, in Onamia. The couple had five children; Larry, Myrna, Patricia, Lonnie and Rebecca.
She enjoyed being a housewife and mother and kept busy gardening and yard work. After her husband developed health problems she worked at the Land O Lakes Ice Cream department for several summers. In the 1960s they moved to Brunswick and operated a gas station convenience store where she worked until 1975. She also was cashier at the S&W Fleet Supply store in Mora until she retired in 1983. She and her husband wintered in Arizona for 10 winters and moved into Dala House in Mora in 1993. Her husband passed away in 1995, and she continued to live there until 2013 when she moved to the Laker Apt. in Mountain Lake to be near her two daughters. She attended Fish Lake Chapel where she grew in faith and love for her Lord and Savior. She was honored to be church organist for several years. Her church family meant so much to her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lorin; son, Larry; brothers, George, Elmer, Forest and Robert; sisters, Ruth Borne, Esther Korsch and Susan Unger.
She is survived by her children, Myrna (Mark) Lloyd, Patricia (Ron) Moulton, Rebecca (Steve) Kremmin, Lonnie (Juel) Vreeland; daughter-in-law, Georgia (Darrell) Kringen; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Evelyn Lilienthal; many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, at Fish Lake Chapel in Mora, with Rev. Bob Bohachek and Rev. Bruce Thompson officiating.Burial will be at the Fish Lake Cemetery in Mora.
