Goldsmith

Robert Wayne Goldsmith, of Mora, died on Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at St. Clare Living Community in Mora. He was 91 years old.

He was born on Oct. 9, 1927 in Mora, to parents G. Sumner and Gladys (St John) Goldsmith. He graduated from Mora High School and served in the United States Army from September of 1946 to May of 1947 and was stationed in Japan.

On Aug. 18, 1947, he was united in marriage to Marilyn A. Herr.  There were two children born to them.  In 1956 they moved to Onamia where he was employed at Glenn’s Store, which they later bought.  In 1991 the couple retired and returned to Mora where they resided at the Dala House Senior Apartments until they moved to the Villages and then St. Clare’s.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marilyn; brothers, Ronald and Thomas Goldsmith and sister Shirley Nelson.

He is survived by son, David (Linda) of Isle; daughter, Bonnie (Michael) Zea of Onamia; granddaughters, Jaime (Jim) Strohmeier, Jill (Cory) Zimpel, Jennifer Goldsmith, Kathryn (Lucas) Mattila and Erin Schenk (Jeremy Haugen); great-grandchildren, Zachary and Tyler Wiener, Erica and Abigail Zimpel, Courtney and Lyndsey Strohmeier, Aubrey and Laney Mattila, Grayson and Alden Haugen; step-grandchildren, Jessica (Travis) Erickson, John and Kelly Becker; brother, Jim (Sonja) Goldsmith; sisters-in-law, JoAnn Goldsmith,  Evelyn Goldsmith and Donna Pearson; brother-in-law, Donald (Sandra) Herr and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 19, 2019 at Mora United Methodist Church with Rev. Debra Schaffram officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 12 to 1 p.m. Inurnment will be at the Oakwood Cemetery in Mora.  Military Honors will be provided by the Mora American Legion Post 201.
