Harriet Sylvia (Moore) Faylor, of Mora, died on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019, after a long and courageous battle against metastatic breast cancer. She was 93 years old.

She was born on June 13, 1926, to James Albert (Bert) and Nellie Mable Moore at their home northeast of Mora.

Her mother passed away in 1928, prompting the young Moore family to move to Illinois to be closer to Nellie’s family. She began her school tenure in New Philadelphia, Illinois. The family returned to Minnesota, first residing north of Ogilvie. As the family moved around Kanabec County, Sylvia attended several grade schools, culminating in her graduating from Mora’s Central High School in 1945. She went on to graduate from Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis.

On Sept. 25, 1949, she was united in marriage to Douglas Virgil Faylor at the First Presbyterian Church in Mora. During the first few years of their marriage, they resided in Minneapolis. They returned to rural life when they joined her husband’s parents on the family farm in Peace Township. The couple enjoyed nearly 56 years of marriage until his death in 2005.

She worked for Cargill, Standard Oil of Indiana, Blaw Knox and retired after 29 years with the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) office in Mora. She was active in the Minnesota Retired ASCS Employee organization, serving as secretary for many years. Many terms of being elected treasurer of Peace Township kept her involved in local government after accepting the appointment to that office in 1971. Sylvia was a willing servant to her faith being involved with the many groups and committees at First Presbyterian Church of Mora.

She was not all about work. Her hobbies included knitting and crocheting, gardening, canning, cooking, baking, traveling, fishing and deer hunting. She was 91 years young when she drove her motor home and boat to fish in Canada and bagged her last buck. Spending time with her many friends and family brought her much joy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Faylor; parents, Bert and Nellie Moore; sisters, Alberta Forshier and Ruth Ella Magnuson; sister-in-law, Twilla Moore; and brothers-in-law, Karl Forshier and Lee Magnuson, all of Mora.

She is survived by brother, Ellzy Moore of Mora; special friend Ron Larson; many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relative and friends.
