Tanner Groninga died unexpectedly and went home to meet Jesus on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020. He was 22 years old.

He was born in Minneapolis on Jan. 13, 1997, to parents Todd and Jean (McGuire) Groninga. He moved north in 2004 with his family and eventually ended up in Mora for middle school. Through a mutual friend he asked the love of his life, Miranda Zimmer, to their senior prom. Then on June 17, 2017 they were united in marriage, and they spent two and a half happy years together.

He enjoyed 4-H and hockey throughout high school.  He also enjoyed four-wheeling and snowmobiling with his wife, family and friends whether it was local trails or trips to the upper peninsula of Michigan. He enjoyed being a heavy equipment operator for Kanabec County and also loved working on the farm with his father-in-law. He started out farming loving yellow and green, but soon found joy in operating red.  Whenever his father-in-law would start a tractor, he would come running.  He will forever be missed and loved.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Thomas and Janet McGuire.

He is survived by his wife, Miranda; parents, Todd and Jean Groninga; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Shelli Zimmer; sisters, Amber, Torrie and Autumn; brother-in-law, Justin Zimmer; grandparents, Richard and Ardis Groninga; special family, Dave, Sherry and Jake Janousek; as well as aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020, at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Mora. Arrangements were handled by the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home of Mora. Condolences may be posted at
