Thomas Patrick Carter of Mora died and went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday evening, Oct. 21, 2020. He was 76 years old. He was surrounded by loving family as he took his final journey to heaven.
He was the third of 11 children born to Robert and Evelyn Carter. He was born in Camden, Arkansas but moved to Ontario, California at the tender age of 6 months where he grew up and lived all but the last 12 years of his life. He was united in marriage to Opal Jackson in 1963 and had three daughters, Shellie, Antoinette and Danielle. He and Opal later went their separate ways.
He was a general contractor most of his life, having his own construction company for 19 years. He was known for his ingenious ways of “fixing” things and his love of the great outdoors, especially fishing.
In his later years many physical problems kept him from enjoying these things but he never quit dreaming. In 1984 he met a Minnesota transplant, Marjorie Hubbard, and in 1985 they were married out in the desert near Victorville, California. In 2008 they moved to Minnesota where they lived until his death.
The church and his relationship with his Lord and Savior has always been first in his life. Many people were helped by his steadfast love and Christian nurturing. Nobody was a stranger to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Evelyn Carter; brothers, Robert Carter and James Carter; sisters, Robbie Meade and Velma Greene; stepdaughter, Laura Logan; and ex-wife, Opal Carter.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; daughters, Shellie (George) Dailey, Antoinette Antone, Danielle (Terry) Archer; stepdaughter, Cyndi Hall; stepsons Steven Hubbard and John Hubbard; sisters, Esther Randle, Jessica (Steve) Arebalo, Deborah Carter; brothers, Steve Carter, Forrest Carter and Charles Carter; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; plus many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services are pending.
