Verna Bossen died on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021 at GracePointe Crossing in Cambridge. She was 95 years old.

She was born on Aug. 14, 1925 in Grand Rapids. She was the only child of Warren E. and Adelia A. Poppe. She grew up on her beloved homestead on the shores of Twin Lakes in rural Itasca County. She attended the local schools and graduated from Coleraine High School in 1943. She continued her education at Itasca Junior College and then the University of Minnesota at St. Paul. She graduated with a degree in Home Economics in 1947.

Following graduation, she accepted a position as 4-H Agent in Kanabec County. During this time, she met a poultry farmer by the name of Marvin Bossen. They were united in marriage in 1950, and she joined her husband as well as brother and sister-in-law, Edwin and Lila Bossen, in the operation of the Bossen Bros Poultry Farm in Ann Lake Township.

She and her husband became the parents of four children: Vernon Henry, Mary Frances, Paul Warren and Roy Marvin. In 1969, she lost her husband to cancer. Following his death, she remained on the poultry farm that was now operated by her son, Vern, until about 1980. With her children now grown, she returned to her childhood home where she lived until failing health at the age of 89.

She enjoyed her family and Twin Lakes neighborhood history. Her grandfather was a logger from Wisconsin who followed the logging to Itasca County in Minnesota in the late 1890’s. He later settled on the Twin Lakes homestead that she came to love. Over the years, she kept in touch with her distant relatives and neighbors. She was also very proud of her 4-H years and continued with an Extension club in her Twin Lakes neighborhood. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ogilvie, for many years and later the Grace Lutheran Church in Marble.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin; and daughters-in-law, Susie Ann (Jackson) Bossen and Toni Sanden.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Vern Bossen, Mary (Rolland) Adkins, Paul (Marlys) Bossen and Roy (Kim) Bossen; grandchildren, Bonnie Bossen, Jackson Bossen, Alison (Joel) Dahlin, Alicia (Kurt) Peterson, Alaina (Josh) Jones, Amanda Bossen, Bryce Bossen, Chris Adkins and Allison (Heath) Garey; 10 great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
