Wallace Erick Lind, a resident of the Northern Wisconsin Veteran’s Home in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, died late Thursday evening June 13, 2019. He was 95 years old.

He was the son of Olaf and Emma (Sjolund) Lind  born May 18, 1924 in Jesse Lake. He was raised in Minnesota and graduated from Deer River High School. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy serving from Dec. 1942 through Dec. 1948. He is a veteran of World War II. After his honorable discharge he worked as a merchant sailor on the Great Lakes from 1949 until 1952.

He was united in marriage to Jeanette Carlson in 1952 and to this union six children were born. Using his Navy training he worked as a mechanical engineer for Whirlpool in Cloquet and then for the Hostess Company in Minneapolis, retiring in 1986.

After his retirement he continued to work as the custodian at Constance Free Church in Andover and as a custodian at Ham Lake Senior Center. He moved to Mora in 2004 to be nearer to Jean but in February of 2004, his loving wife of 52 years passed away. He stayed in Mora many active and fulfilling years enjoying the companionship of his neighbors and church friends. After staying with different family members he entered the Veteran’s home in January of 2017 due to failing health.

He raised the food his family ate, including livestock and organic gardening. He also enjoyed bee keeping and admiring the wildlife God gave us. He loved playing volleyball with his family and church groups over the years and played cards right into his 90’s.

He enjoyed fixing and repairing almost anything for his neighbors, friends and even strangers. But what he will most fondly be remembered for was his infectious laugh and gentle teasing with children from ages one to 103.

He was preceded in death by wife; Jean, daughter; Carol Lind and son-in-law Bruce Holmquist.

He will be dearly missed by his children, Steve Lind (Beverly Steinke) of Isanti, Donna Heidelberger of Pine City, Susan Holmquist of Boyds, Maryland, Kenny (Yoon Hee) of Mora and Nancy Moss of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, grandchildren; Rachel Heidelberger (Mark), Becky (Dan) Lewandowski, Dan (Kyra) Heidelberger, Katie (Jesse) Evenson, Foster Holmquist, Jenny (David) Nestrud, Eric (Kelsy) Lind, Alan (Vanessa) Lind, Emma (Cole) Kostka, Ben Moss and Spencer Moss, great-grandchildren, Lincoln Heidelberger, Jayden and Kenley Evenson, Myra Nestrud, Evelyn Lind and Kieran Lind.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Lewis Lake Covenant Church, 1030 Grand Street, Ogilvie, Minnesota, with Pastor Robert De Young officiating. Burial with honor guard will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Wentworth, Wisconsin.
