Yvonne “Vonnie” Marlys Olson, of Mora, died on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020 at the Elim Home in Milaca. She was 83 years old.
She was born and raised in rural Mora and, other than for a brief time, lived and worked her entire life in Mora. She graduated from Mora High School and attended the University of Minnesota where she earned a degree in teaching and a masters degree in mathematics. She was a teacher in the Minneapolis Public Schools for two years before returning to Mora and marrying George Olson. She and her husband operated various businesses in the Mora area.
She was a mother, teacher and business owner. She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, a city council member, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Eastern Star.
She loved traveling the world and saw much of it. She enjoyed fishing trips, reading and gardening in her spare time.
She was preceded in death by her husband George Olson; parents, John Walter and Pearl Johnson; brothers, Donald and Dennis Johnson; and sister, Joan Sorenson.
She is survived by sons, Kerry Olson of Mora, Kirby (Cheerie) Olson of Mora; grandchildren, Kam (Nick) Shroeder of Mora, Dustin (Samantha) Olson of Rochester, Savanna Olson of Duluth; and great grandchildren, Archer, Honor, Alexander and Oscar.
A private family service is being planned. Memorials may be sent to the Mora Food Pantry.
