To the editor,

I was listening to a song the other day and I thought of our community. It seems that we are all divided over something; whether it’s about President Trump, building/not building a new school, or even arguing about the new dollar store in town. I feel that we should all come together to help our community, not split it up.

We need to encourage people. It doesn’t matter what side you are on or who you vote for. We are a community and we need to come together. I think some ways we can encourage one another are simply using manners like “please” and “thank you,” holding the door for someone else, apologizing, shoveling someone’s driveway, saying “hello” to someone you know disagrees with you on something.

Let me start by encouraging you with some of the lyrics that inspired me to share my thoughts:

“...Are you left?

Are you right?

Pointing fingers, taking sides

When are we gonna realize?

We all bleed the same

We’re more beautiful when we come together

We all bleed the same

So tell me why, tell me why

We’re divided

If we’re gonna fight

Let’s fight for each other

If we’re gonna shout

Let love be the cry…”

(Bleed the Same by Mandisa)

Be motivated to be kind. Start now. Write your own letter to the editor encouraging others. Share kindness on social media or in person, and smile more.
