1976

A Vasaloppet Board of Directors is formed with two members each from the Mora Jaycees (Denny Schulz and Wayne Frana), Mora Commercial Club (Bob Buchholz and Bob Beck), and Kanabec Conservation Club (Glen Johnstone and Bernie Manthie).

Entry fees: $5 for 50km, and $3 for the 25km ending at Knife Lake.

Tour skiers pay $3 and could drop out at any soup stop.

The idea to run a 50km point-to-point race from Warman to the Kanabec County Fairgrounds came up short. The race ends near Einar and Kathy Hovland’s property, due to no snow further south.

A soup and sandwich lunch and awards ceremony is held at the Mora American Legion.

347 skiers are registered for the race.
