The Mora Blue Devils are once again the champions of the Eastern Minny North League. By virtue of their 5-3 victory over Hinckley on Sunday, July 26, Mora wrapped up the North title and will enter the region 1C tournament as a top seed. Mora finished the regular season 6-0 in the North and 11-3 overall.
The week began for Mora against the North Branch Nighthawks in Quamba Wednesday, July 22. A tight game was broken open at last by Mora as the Devils went on to a 7-1 victory.
Damon Rademacher got the start for Mora. He went the distance scattering 10 hits while striking out nine and walking just one batter.
Mora trailed 1-0 heading into the fifth inning when Rademacher reached on an error and scored on a Brian Kiel double to tie the game at 1-1.
In the seventh inning Rademacher helped his own cause as he gave Mora the lead for good. Rademacher deposited a pitch over the left field fence for a home run giving Mora a 2-1 lead.
Mora broke the game open in the eighth inning by scoring five runs. A couple of North Branch errors combined with walks helped Mora pad their lead and secure the win.
On Saturday, July 25, Mora hosted Ramsey for another out of league game. Mora posted 12 runs in the first three innings and cruised to a 12-3 victory.
The bats were hot early as Mora posted 15 hits over the first three innings. Mora scored four in the first inning. The big blow was a Troy Jones triple driving in a run.
In the second inning Mora scored six more runs. Bryce Norby had a two RBI single, and Ryan VanSomeren had a bases clearing double for three RBI’s.
The scoring barrage ended for Mora in the third inning with two more runs. VanSomeren drove in another run while Matthew Peters also had an RBI single.
Logan Graves had four hits to lead the way. VanSomeren and Jones were each three for five at the plate. Wyatt Foss, Norby and Peters each had two hits.
Bryce Norby started on the mound and went the first four innings. He allowed just one hit while striking out six and walking two.
Logan Graves went the final five innings to get the win. Graves allowed four hits while striking out eight and walking one.
On Sunday, July 26, Mora hosted its regular season finale against rival Hinckley. The two teams played 16 innings in their earlier meeting and this one was also close as Mora came out on top 5-3.
Hinckley struck first off of Mora ace Derek Graves. A two run homer by TJ Johnson put the Knights up 2-0 in the third inning.
Mora answered with two of their own in the fourth inning. Bryce Norby hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Logan Graves to cut the deficit to 2-1. Troy Jones delivered a big double to bring in Michael Humphrey to tie the game 2-2.
Mora took the lead for good in the fifth inning. With the bases loaded and one out, but it brought in Darin Erickson to make it 3-2.
In the eighth inning. Mora got a couple of insurance runs as Darin Erickson drove in two with a double down the right field line to make it 5-2.
After the two run home run by the Knights, Graves settled in as he retired 17 of the next 19 Hinckley batters. The Knights got back to back doubles in the ninth to cut the deficit to 5-3. A Graves strike out ended the game and clinched the North for the Devils.
Graves allowed seven hits while striking out 13 and walking none. It was the fifth win of the season for Graves to lead the Eastern Minny.
Mora will open Region 1C tournament play at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, Aug. 2 in Hinckley. Mora will play the winner of the North Branch/Nowthen game which will be played on Saturday, Aug. 1.
