After a 4th of July break with no games, the Mora Blue Devils got back into action with a 5-0 loss to Isanti on Friday, July 10 and a 4-0 victory over Quamba in the home opener.

Friday night Mora ran into a couple of tough Isanti Redbird pitchers that combined to allow just two hits to Blue Devils hitters. Both hits came in the first inning off the bats of Jake Carlson and Troy Jones. Mora threatened, but left the bases loaded. It was the only real scoring threat of the night for the Devils.

Four Mora pitchers combined their efforts allowing just eight hits while striking out 10 Redbird batters.  Damon Rademacher got the start, followed by Ryan VanSomeren, Logan Graves and Jake Carlson.

Sunday, July 12, was the first amateur baseball game in Mora in almost a full year. Mora hosted their Kanabec County rivals, the Quamba Cubs.

Mora opened the scoring with three runs in the third inning. A critical Cub error with two outs led to the first two runs of the game. Darin Erickson drove in the third run of the inning with an RBI single.

That was more than enough for starting pitcher Derek Graves. Graves went the distance allowing just one hit, one walk, one hit batter and 20 strikeouts tying a team record that he held with Asa Patterson.

Quamba did threaten in the third inning as Logan Sjoberg led off with a walk. He stole two bases to get to third, but was stranded there as Graves struck out the side.

Justin Krie led off the fourth inning with the lone Quamba hit with a double to right. He advanced to third on a wild pitch, but was stranded as Graves once again struck out the side.

Sjoberg started and went six innings. He allowed just four hits while striking out five and walking five. Lucas Athey pitched the last two innings.

Mora got a run off Athey in the bottom of the eighth inning. Brian Kiel led off by getting hit by a pitch. He stole second base and came home on a Logan Graves single to center.

Mora is 4-3 overall and 1-0 in the Eastern Minnesota League North. Mora played at 7:30 p.m. in Hinckley on Wednesday, July 15 and will play at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night at Quamba, and host Braham in a doubleheader at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 19.
