Ogilvie Wrestling Head Coach Adam Halvorson shares about the ongoing 2021 season:
How is the makeup of the varsity team different from last year?: We lost only one senior last season so the makeup of the team is very similar. Talon Baker is a promising first year wrestler, and we did get a couple of guys back on the team after taking a year off.
What are the team’s goals and priorities for the season?: Win the Great River Conference Dual Meet Championship. We took a step in the right direction by defeating Mille Lacs 39-35 on Feb. 9, 2021. We are currently 3-0 in GRC dual meets.
What pandemic-related changes are most challenging and how are the athletes adapting to those changes?: When we have a team member quarantine due to COVID exposure that is really hard. The kid in quarantine has to do their best to stay in shape on their own until they can return to practice.
What do you hope these young athletes will take away from their sports experience this season?: They have to learn to show up, do their best, never give up and overcome fear, doubt and frustration.
What is the best way for fans to support the team this year?: Come to watch the wrestling meets as school policies/ capacity allow. Or to look on our schools website and Facebook accounts to find live stream links and watch the meet from home. Follow us on Facebook Ogilvie HS Wrestling. Lastly, let the wrestlers know that you have seen them wrestle or heard about them wrestling and that you are proud of their effort.
