The Mora girls varsity Nordic ski team is headed to the state meet March 11 after finishing second at the Region 5 section meet on March 3.
Head Coach Peter Larson is hopeful the team could make top 10 in the state this year —if the snow doesn’t melt before the race. Forecasts show snow the night before the race, so despite recent warm temperatures, Larson was hopeful for good racing conditions.
“The team has worked very hard through the pandemic to improve both their technique and fitness—their hard work has payed off,” said Larson.
“The girls have really come together as a group and pushed each other in every practice this year. They show up ready to get better everyday and made huge improvements because of that.”
The girls state tournament is March 11 at Giant’s Ridge Golf and Ski Resort in Biwabik.
Boys Nordic Skiing
The boys finished their season placing fourth in the section. Larson noted that skier Tommy Mulford “had a great race” placing fourth in the section and qualified individually for boys state on March 12.
