The Mora Mustangs boys and girls golf teams sent eight golfers to the second day of Section 7AA competition this spring. Though none made the cut to advance to the State Tournament, they rose to the challenge and ended the 2019 season on a positive note.

The Section Tournament took place on Tuesday and Thursday, May 28 and 30, at Giants Ridge in Biwabik. Four girls and four boys advanced to the second day of play: seniors Blake Radeke and Maekaela Lindgren, juniors Hunter Honstrom, Alexis Hughes and Alyza Nielsen, sophomore Sierra Thomson, ninth grader Jack Kritzeck and eighth grader Noah Klapmeier.

“The second day of Sections turned out to be a perfect day of golf, with conditions being prime,” said girls coach Joy Whitbred. “None of the girls qualified for State, but I was extremely happy with their scores for such a difficult course.”

“We struggled as a team at Sections,” added boys coach Sarah Ellstrom. “But overall the guys had a great season, full of many team bests and personal bests.”
