Roger Undem, former resident of Mora currently residing in Hinckley, recently competed in and won in his age category at the Minnesota Senior Bowling Tournament in Mankato.
Undem rolled a three game series of 670. With an established handicap of 124, his grand total pins score was 794. Second place in his age group was 705. The 794 score was the top score of all five age categories of 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74 and 75-plus. Undem competed in the 70-74 age group. A total of 237 senior bowlers competed.
“I went into the tournament thinking if I bowled in the low 600’s, I might have a chance of winning,” said Undem. “Then I started with a 265 and my confidence in winning greatly improved.”
Undem also won his category at the 2017 tournament held in Rush City where he bowls weekly at Chucker’s Lanes. That win enabled him to compete in the National Tournament in Reno, Nevada. This year’s win propels Undem to the National Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky in July 2020.
“By participating in the 2017 Nationals I have more confidence to do well in this year’s tournament. I’d like to finish in the top six bowlers to qualify for the final roll off for the championship,” said Undem.
The 2019 tourney was held at Wow Zone Bowling Center in Mankato. All results can be accessed at the Minnesota State Senior Bowling Championship website.
