Torgeson

Daniel “Dan” Lloyd Torgeson died on Friday, Oct.15, 2021, at the age of 59 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, after a four month battle with kidney cancer.

He was born on Jan. 12, 1962, in Fridley, to Richard and Patsy (Hendricks) Torgeson. He was a 1980 graduate of Ogilvie High School. He loved playing almost any sport, and was on his high school football team. After graduation he worked at FingerHut in Mora for 12 years and purchased “Dan Torgeson’s Septic Service’’ in 1992. In 1993, he also became a school bus driver for Ogilvie District. He loved getting to know the kids on his bus routes and cheering them on in their sports competitions. He worked at both jobs until forced to quit because of his health issues.

He met his wife, Laurie (Nestrud), at a Fingerhut gathering. They were united in marriage on April 25, 1987, at Mora United Methodist Church. In 1994 they adopted their daughter, Megan, and in 1998, their son, Jared. He very much enjoyed attending Megan and Jared’s school plays and concerts. He was very proud of both of the kids, and their talents and accomplishments.

He enjoyed playing almost any card game with family and friends, sometimes making up his own rules and games. He also loved camping, fishing and for several years coached Laurie’s softball team. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, on Wednesday date nights with the once co-ed volleyball team. That same group took winter vacations every two to three years, typically to Caribbean locations.  He enjoyed these trips very much, once the airplane landed on solid ground.

He loved fiction and fantasy novels and movies, and could often be found on the deck reading with a cat on his lap. He loved being outside, enjoying Minnesota’s seasons. He was a member of the Ogilvie United Methodist church and a beloved member of the Ogilvie community, who was greeted by a friendly face or conversation wherever he went.

He was preceded in death by father Richard; mother Patsy, (Hendricks); brother, James; sisters and brothers-in-law, Larry “Rocky” Miller, Eileen Briggs, Ken Ehrhardt, Roger (Judy) Christy,  Mick Nestrud, Arlen Ellingson, Roger Nestrud,  Janyce Nestrud and Pat Krause.

He is survived by his wife, Laurie; daughter, Megan (fiancée Brad Bye); son, Jared; brothers, Rick (Leah) and Tim (Alayne); sister, Sue Miller; sisters and brothers-in-law, Tim Briggs, Sandy Ehrhardt, Peggy (Brian) Mills, Carol Ellingson, Ken (Cindy) Nestrud,  Linda Nestrud, Steve (Krys) Nestrud, Diane Krause, Ron (Helen) Nestrud, Linda (Jim) Hosley, Karen (Ray) Lefto; and many other relatives and friends.
