Elizabeth Ann (Mittelstadt) Orr died on Monday, Sept. 27, 2021, at the St. Clare Living Community in Mora. She was 87 years old.

She was born on the family farm near Quamba on Oct. 15, 1933, to Alvin August “Ole” Mittelstadt and Freda Oslin. She attended Quamba grade school and Mora High School. The Quamba Baptist Church was a big part of her life.

In August of 1950, she was united in marriage to Richard Harley Orr in Freda and Ole’s garden in Quamba. They then moved to the family farm, lovingly called “Orr’s Acres.” To this union, four children were born; Paulette, Brian, Steven and Mary Ann.

Her first job was working for Herb Lidstrom at the Quamba Hardware, and then she worked for Jean and Elwood Ostrom at the grocery store on Main Street in Quamba. Her next job was social editor at the Kanabec County Times. She loved to cook, so the next job she took was spending her summers at the Yes Bay Lodge in Alaska. She worked for the Hacks for over 15 years. Guests and crews enjoyed her home style cooking and her ability to cook all seafood; she even prepared octopus for a guest who had caught one. During the winter months, she was a realtor for Soderstrom Realty where she worked until retiring at the age of 77.

She traveled extensively in the United States and also to Israel, Romania, Nigeria and Sweden. Her trip to Nigeria was to visit the orphanage she helped fund and established in memory of Mary Ann.

She was known for her hospitality with a lot of good food and visiting around the dining room table with a cup of coffee and her Swedish sugar cookies. Some favorites were her baked beans, homemade buns, biscotti and great family meals.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; son, Brian; daughter, Mary Ann; parents Ole and Freda Mittelstadt; stepfather, Art Winterfeldt; brothers-in-law, Loren Price and Charles Akkerman.

She is survived by daughter, Paulette (Greg) Telander of Mora; son, Steven (Diana) of Mora; sister, Delores Akkerman of Mora; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 15, 2021, at the Quamba Baptist Church with Pastor Ivan Fiske officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at the Oakwood Cemetery in Mora. A luncheon will follow the graveside service at the church. The family requests that face masks be worn at the services for Liz. Arrangements are by the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home of Mora. Condolences may be posted at www.aifuneralhome.com.
