Lois Louise (Kahle) Strelow, of Mora, formerly of Braham, died on Friday, Nov. 12, 2021. She was 86 years old.
She was born on Feb. 24, 1935, to Raymond J. and Beatrice B. (Tiegs) Kahle in her grandmother’s home in Henderson. She spent her early childhood around Belle Plaine and Henderson, primarily farming and attending country school before her family relocated to Mora.
Growing up in Mora, she was a local favorite babysitter, played saxophone in the school band and loved to roller-skate with friends at Fish Lake Pavilion. On Dec. 26, 1952, while skating with friends, she met a handsome Marine and was forever in love.
On Jan. 8, 1955, she was united in marriage to Marlyn Strelow at Grace Lutheran Church in Mora. The couple made their home east of Braham and eventually purchased a farm east of Braham in 1957. In those early years, she was a busy homemaker and mother with gardening, canning, bread making and laundry (SO much laundry she would say).
In February of 1972 the couple purchased a farm near Mora and then in the fall of 1981, built a new home nearby. They loved their country home, but moved to Pine Crest Apartments in Mora in 2011. After her husband’s passing in 2017, she moved to Elmhurst Commons in Braham.
She enjoyed gardening, watching birds and many years as the “Tupperware Lady’’ and the “Cake Lady.” She was very involved in the churches they attended as a family. At both St. Stephen’s Lutheran in Braham and Zion Lutheran in Mora, she was active in church council, teaching Sunday school, Bible studies, women’s groups and folding bulletins.
She will always be remembered for the best lap a grandchild could ever sit on and all the Christmas cookies. She found joy in her family and will be missed tremendously.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marlyn; her parents; granddaughter Misty Strelow; and great-grandson, Charles Boudreau.
She is survived by her children, Steven (Jean), Marie (Kevin) Nelson, Randy (Linda), Jillayne (Roger) Newton, Bradley (Julie), Dale, David (Cheryl), and Melissa (Thomas) Larabee; 23 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; brother, Myron (Barb) Kahle; sister, Eunice (Gene) Weckwerth; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 22, 2021, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Mora. Rev. Anthony Cloose will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Honorary urn bearers are Jeremy Newton, Joshua Newton, Matthew Newton, Aaron Nelson, Nathan Strelow, Seth Strelow, Anthony Strelow, Ryan Strelow, Derek Strelow and Kelston Larabee. Inurnment will be held immediately following the services at the Oakwood Cemetery in Mora. Arrangements are by the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home of Mora.
