APPROVED MEETING MINUTES

BOARD OF EDUCATION

INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT 332

Work Session

Mora Elementary School, Commons Area

June 24, 2021

5:00 p.m.

The work session of the Board of Education of Independent School District 332, Mora, Minnesota, was called to order by Scott Moe, Board Chair, at 5:00 p.m.  Board Members present were: Board Chair Scott MOo, Board Vice Chair/Treasurer Robert Woods, Clerk Tammy Bohachek, Robert Jensen, Deb Hallin, and Matt Heggernes.  Also present were Superintendent Dan Voce, Elementary Principal Randy Qual, Assistant Principal Nick Bakke, Technology Director Shane Knutson, Executive Assistant/HR Coordinator Kelly Christianson, and Sean Lewis, Senior Project Director - ICS, Evan Johnson, Project Manager - ICS.

Sean Lewis, Senior Project Manager and Evan Johnson, Project Manager - ICS led the presentation providing an overview construction project to date.  The budget numbers were reviewed.  Member Woods led discussion on the contingency amount of $1.925 million budgeted, and inquired about the confidence level of the project management team of staying within the contingencies budgeted.

Discussion was held regarding the potential of additional classrooms that were included as a bid alternate during the original bidding process.  The addition of these classrooms during the initial construction phase would be considerably cheaper due to economy of scale.  Funding possibilities include reallocating furniture, technology and security funds, which will be covered under ESSER funds that have been committed to school districts, and the use of fund balance.  The goal moving forward will be to submit a proposal to the School Board to move allowable ESSER funds toward construction items, allowing the construction fund savings to be applied toward the construction of the additional classrooms.

It was also noted that approval was received from the Minnesota Department of Education to allow the use of LTFM Funds to move the electrical components that currently run underneath Mora Elementary School.  The electrical system was reviewed with the City of Mora and continues to be a process.

The full presentation is available in the District Office.

Member Bohachek motioned to adjourn the meeting, Member Heggernes duly seconded the motion.  The meeting was adjourned at 6:27 p.m.
