Starting in the summer of 2017, the Many Faces of Vasaloppet art project is launched. The project of life-casting faces and hands of Vasaloppet volunteers begins with 17 presidents, plus an additional seven other volunteers.
A new mission statement is developed by the Vasaloppet Board: To promote a healthy and active outdoor lifestyle, including economic and social benefits, through cross country skiing events and related programs for youth, families and serious competitors.
In August of 2017, seven students and two adults attend the International Vasaloppet Student Cultural Exchange held in Mora, Sweden by Vasaloppet Sweden.
In the fall of 2017 the first running of the Swedish Mile takes place with cross country runners splashing through several wet and muddy spots on the course.
Race names are changed from kilometer distances to The Vasa, The Classic, The Dala, The Bell Ringer and The Team.
For the third time, Vasaloppet plays host to the International Vasaloppet Skiing Exchange. Twenty representatives from the Vasaloppets of Sweden, Japan and China attend the seven-day event culminating with Vasaloppet weekend.
