Mora Girls Golf Head Coach Joy Whitbred shares about the upcoming 2023 season:
Describe the makeup of your varsity team: This year we have a returning team of seniors Kate Anderson and Sophie Peterson, followed with sophomore Ellie Whitbred. We have several new golfers this year rounding out the squad, and once we get outside and have some further practices it will be easier to determine who completes the varsity team.Â
What are your goals and/or priorities for the season? For this season the team goals are to place well in our conference competitions and to advance to the second day of sectionals as we did last year. We’d like to have a few girls compete in the state tournament as well.
Who do you see as being a challenging competitor? Albany will most likely be our toughest competition as several teams graduated a handful of seniors. Albany was close to making the state tournament as a team last year, so I envision them winning our conference this season.
What would you like your young athletes to gain from being part of your team? I’m very excited about the younger golfers on my team and thrilled they chose to give golf a chance. Golf is such a unique sport and one that can help individuals learn so much about themselves- it’s challenging, rewarding and having patience with your own progress is so important.Â
Is there anything else you would like to add regarding your sports season? We’re hoping to get outside asap, and we are thankful for that. Practicing inside is getting old VERY fast!
