The Mora volleyball team wasted no time getting to its post-game Senior Night celebration on Tuesday night, Oct. 19. The Mustangs (9-17 overall, 4-6 Granite Ridge) rolled past Zimmerman (2-16, 0-10), taking the match 25-17, 25-16, 18-25, 25-22 to close the 2021 Granite Ridge Conference season and enter 7AA Section play.

Head coach Lisa Gustafson said, “We played consistently the first two sets and stayed in offensive mode for the most part. We served tough and were playing sound defense.

We fell behind early in set three and played catch-up most of the time, never getting into an offensive groove that game. We were plagued by errors, especially on serve receive. The players did a nice job of regrouping and starting strong in the fourth set. They took the lead and played strategically smarter on offense.”

Mustang’s Emma Marie Anderson finished with double-digit kills with 11. Senior outside hitter Jaiden Robb pitched in six kills with Erin Radeke and Natalie Sigstad each with five kills of their own. The defensive specialist Lanah Ingebrand picked up 17 digs in four sets of play. Robb added 15 digs of her own.

As a team, Mustangs hit a +0.132 hitting percentage versus Zimmerman (37 kills – 20 errors – 129 attempts) while holding Zimmerman to -0.043 percentage (16 – 21 – 116).

The defense was led by Emma Marie Anderson, Jaiden Robb and Erin Radeke with two blocks each. Lauren Berry hit 22 of 23 successful serve attempts, which included three aces. Shea Ausmus led the team with five aces.

It was a great end to the regular season,” said Lisa Gustafson. “The gym was packed for senior night and the fan base has been spectacular.”

Senior Ellie Faber said, “I felt very overwhelmed and started crying thinking about how that was my last game ever on that court. It’s hard to think that there’s not gonna be a next year.”

The seniors this year are Emma Anderson, Lauren Berry, Ellie Faber, Allison Fix, Lanah Ingebrand, Mikala Peterson, Erin Radeke, Jaiden Robb, Ellian Schritz and Natalie Sigstad.

“We have spent countless hours together at this point between tournaments and sleepovers,” senior Lanah Ingebrand said. “I feel we have become more of a family than just a team. I can count on them for anything even outside of volleyball, and I can’t wait to see what everyone accomplishes after we part. This is such a special team, I couldn’t have asked for a better group of girls to grow up with.”

Senior Emma Marie Anderson said, “I’m happy to say we wrapped up our regular season with a big conference win. Walking into the gym for one last time with our student section and families there to support us was a very rewarding feeling. It was a great night and a long awaited goodbye to our home floor but we are not done yet. The girls and I are very excited to move forward this week as we take on Pine City in the first round of section playoffs.”

Up Next: Mora will hit the road to take on the Pine City Dragons Wednesday, Oct. 27, for the first round of sections.
