The Mora boys and girls junior varsity and varsity Nordic Ski team competed against six other teams on Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Vasaloppet Center in Mora for the Mora Invitational. Varsity skiers started the invite with a 6.9km Classic style, took a short break, then completed the pursuit race with 6.9km Skate ski. Each racer’s times were combined to determine the race, and earn points for their prospective team.Â
Tayah Anderson of Mora finished fifth place overall and was the first Mustang to cross the finish line with a time of 0:50:05 (0:27:08 classic, 0:22:57 skate). The rest of Mora girls completed their race as follows: Nora Kerr finished 21st with a time of 0:54:06 (0:29:24, 0:24:41); Julia Ostrom finished right behind her for a 22nd finish with a time of 0:54:23 (0:29:40, 0:24:44); Annelise Moe finished 28th overall with a time of 0:55:40 (0:31:05, 0:24:35); Ada Halverson finished 40th 0:57:28 (0:31:05, 0:24:35); Tirzah Schultz 1:03:04 (0:34:29, 0:28:35); and Clara Niskanen 1:04:17 (0:35:27, 0:28:50).Â
Crossing the finish line in first place for the girls varsity was Annelise Baird of Brainerd with a time of 0:47:27 (0:25:31 classic, 0:21:56 skate). The Mora girls varsity combined efforts gave them a team score of 328, good enough for fifth place.Â
The varsity boys took third place as a team, combining to score 346 points. Ben Mulford led the way for Mora, finishing 11th place with a time of 0:42:59 (0:23:29 classic, 0:19:30 skate); right behind him was Ted Anderson who took 12th place with a time of 0:43:41 (0:23:18, 0:20:23); Tanner Berry finished 17th when he crossed at 0:44:25 (0:24:12, 0:20:13); Zethan Schultz in 18th at 0:44:36 (0:24:21, 0:20:15); Alex Williams finished 20th as he crossed at 0:45:10 (0:24:08, 0:21:02); William Bauer Cloquet finished 25th at 0:47:16 (0:24:58, 0:22:18); with Owen Szoka 0:47:24 (0:25:29, 0:21:55) coming in right behind him in 26th place; 18 seconds later, Dakota Sand crossed the finish line at 0:47:42 (0:25:11, 0:22:31) for a 27th place finish; Braden McKinnon took 30th, 0:48:52 (0:26:38, 0:22:14); Conner Hubbard took 33rd, 0:50:22 (0:27:07, 0:23:15); and Ledgyn Nelson took 37th with a time of 0:51:33 (0:28:28, 0:23:05).Â
Taking first place in the boys pursuit race was Ethan Yorek of Little Falls with a time of 0:39:19 (0:21:02 class, 0:18:17 skate).
